RAM is an abbreviation for Random Access Memory. This is a type of computer memory, that, unlike other storage devices such as hard disk drives or DVDs, enables the data to be accessed directly without reading the previous content located inside it. Each time an app is started, it's stored within the RAM, due to the fact that it could be accessed much quicker than if it was read from another media device. With regard to the web hosting service itself, extra RAM means that more web applications can run at the same time on a given server, particularly if they're resource-demanding and are accessed by a large amount of people simultaneously. In contrast to a shared web hosting solution in which the resources of a certain account could be flexible and frequently depend on what other users consume as well, a VPS has a guaranteed amount of RAM which you can use always. That memory is allocated to one hosting server only and shall not be used by other customers even if it's not in use.
