Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of handling a website hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for instance, the choices are limited since you'll not have root access to the website hosting server, so you could only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. These are all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to install server-side software or to restart the web server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.
SSH Telnet in Hosting
SSH access is provided with all Linux hosting
which we provide. With some of them, it is included as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade you can include with just a few clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You could get SSH access from the section related to it where you shall also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can select the password that you shall use and, if necessary, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same location. All of the commands that can be used with our shared plans are listed in a help article alongside relevant examples. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
You shall be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server
account via SSH no matter which package you choose when you sign up. With some plans, the function is included by default, and with others, it could be added as an extra upgrade for as long as you need it. You can discover the required login info inside the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You can pick the password that you'll use and if you would like, you could change it on a regular basis with a couple of mouse clicks for even better security. You shall be able to see all the commands that you can use upfront, as we've listed them all along with examples of how they are used in order to execute a particular task. The moment SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is allowed, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
